Bangladesh is a country full of natural resources. We are proud of our soil, forests, flowers, fruits and birds. The country is gifted with plentiful of fauna due to its geographical location. Birds are one of them. Today we will read about a bird known as 'Benebau' in Bangla, and 'Blackheaded Oriole' in English.
 
The Blackheaded Oriole is a bird of the plain land of Bangladesh. Its body and head are of a deep yellow colour; its throat, its tail and some part of its wings are black; its beak is red. It looks like a mayna and is about 25cm in length. It is seen in Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and some other countries.
 
The Blackheaded Oriole is a very sprightly and restless bird. It never stays at one spot for long. It eats all kinds of worms and insects. Its call is quite sweet and pleasant. The Blackheaded Oriole builds round shaped beautiful nests with dry grass and barks of trees. Both the male and the female bird take part in building their nests. The Blackheaded Oriole lays two to three eggs at a time [Lesson — 12(A)]
 

বঙ্গানুবাদ : 

বাংলাদেশ একটি প্রাকৃতিক সম্পদে সমৃদ্ধ দেশ। আমরা আমাদের মাটি, বন, ফুল, ফল ও পাখির জন্য গর্বিত। দেশটি তার ভৌগোলিক অবস্থানের কারণে প্রচুর প্রাণিসম্পদে সমৃদ্ধ। পাখি সেগুলোর মধ্যে একটি। আজ আমরা একটি পাখি নিয়ে পড়ব যেটা বাংলায় ‘বেনেবউ’ এবং ইংরেজিতে কহেডেড ওরিওল’ নামে পরিচিত।
বেনেবউ বাংলাদেশের সমতল ভূমির একটি পাখি। এটার শরীর এবং মাথা গাঢ় হলুদ রঙের; এর গলা, লেজ এবং ডানার কিছু অংশ কালো; এটার ঠোঁট লাল। এটা ময়না পাখির মত দেখতে এবং এটি ২৫ সেমি লম্বা হয়। এটা বাংলাদেশ, ভারত, শ্রীলঙ্কা, মায়ানমার এবং অন্যান্য কয়েকটি দেশে দেখা যায়।

বেনেবউ খুব প্রাণচঞ্চল এবং চটপটে পাখি। এটা এক জায়গায় বেশিক্ষণ কখনোই থাকে না। এটা সব ধরনের পোকা ও কীটপতঙ্গ খায়। এর ডাক বেশ মিষ্ট ও মনোরম। বেনেবউ শুকনা ঘাস ও গাছের বাকল দিয়ে সুন্দর গোলাকৃতির বাসা তৈরি করে । নারী ও পুরুষ পাখি দুজনে মিলেই তাদের বাসা তৈরি করে। বেনেবউ এক সঙ্গে দুটো থেকে তিনটা ডিম পাড়ে।

Unseen Passage

Read the following text carefully and answer the questions. 

There was an old farmer. He had three sons. They were very quarrelsome. They used to quarrel with one another. One day the farmer called his sons. He ordered them to bring some sticks. They brought some sticks. He ordered them to tie these in a bundle. He told them to break the bundle. They tried but could not break the bundle. All of his sons tried one after another but in vain. Then the old farmer told them to untie the bundle and separate the sticks. He told them to try again to break the sticks separately. This time the sons were able to break the sticks easily. Then the old man told his sons that they were like the sticks. If they remained separate and quarrelled with one another, the enemy would easily defeat them. But if they were united, they would be much stronger and no enemy could do any harm to them.

বঙ্গানুবাদ :  

এক বৃদ্ধ কৃষক ছিলেন। তার তিন ছেলে ছিল। তারা খুব ঝগড়াটে ছিল। তারা একে অন্যের সাথে ঝগড়া করত। একদিন কৃষক তার ছেলেদের ডাকলেন। তিনি তাদেরকে কিছু কাঠি আনতে আদেশ করলেন। তারা কিছু কাঠি আনল। তিনি এগুলোকে শক্ত করে একটি আঁটি বাঁধতে আদেশ দিলেন। তিনি তাদেরকে আঁটিটি ভাঙতে বললেন। তারা চেষ্টা করলো কিন্তু আঁটিটি ভাঙতে পারল না। একে একে তার ছেলেরা ভাঙতে চেষ্টা করল কিন্তু ব্যর্থ গেল। তারপর বৃদ্ধ কৃষক আঁটির বাঁধন খুলতে বলল এবং কাঠিগুলো আলাদা করতে বলল। কাঠিগুলো আলাদাভাবে ভাঙার জন্য তিনি আবার তাদেরকে চেষ্টা করতে বললেন। এই বার ছেলেরা সহজেই কাঠিগুলো ভাঙতে সক্ষম হলো। তারপর বৃদ্ধ লোক তার ছেলেদের বললেন যে তারা কাঠিগুলোর মতো। তারা যদি আলাদা থাকত এবং একে অপরের সাথে ঝগড়া করত, শত্রæরা সহজেই তাদের পরাজিত করতে পারত। তবে তারা যদি ঐক্যবদ্ধ হতো, তারা অধিকতর শক্তিশালী হতো এবং শত্রæরা তাদের কোনো ক্ষতি করতে পারত না।
